Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and what has motivated my run for Sandpoint Mayor.
My Sandpoint story began in 2007 when my wife Nichole and I decided to move from Buffalo, Wyoming to a family-friendly community and raise our children. At the time, Sandpoint was facing significant growth and the town was seeking a planning director to facilitate the update of the 1970’s Comprehensive Plan to guide the future growth of our community. Finally adopted after 22 special meetings and unanimous council support, that plan is still in place (although minor amendments were recently made to it).
Since that time, a lot has changed in Sandpoint and Bonner County. Our streets have become more congested, housing costs have made attracting employees difficult for local businesses, our parks no longer feel welcoming to residents and some of our quiet, wild places no longer feel that way. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some bright spots along the way. Top of mind is the preservation and acquisition of the Pend d’ Oreille Bay Trail, Pine Street Woods (which I was involved with while working as the area Program Officer with the LOR Foundation), and the opening of the Sand Creek watershed for recreational access (an issue also supported by the LOR Foundation).
I am a professional Land Use Planner with proven leadership and understanding of the most complex land use, fiscal, and economic challenges facing Sandpoint. Since 2019 when I opened Whiskey Rock Planning + Consulting I have represented over 100 clients in the region on land use actions. I will leverage this experience with an understanding of both the private and public perspectives to help guide growth and decision-making in Sandpoint.
